Overview:
HISP Rwanda is seeking a motivated intern to join our team and contribute to DHIS2 app development projects. As a part of the Health Information Systems Program, HISP Rwanda plays a crucial role in implementing and supporting DHIS2, the open-source health information system. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in DHIS2 app development within the context of the Rwandan health system.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the development team to design, develop, and test DHIS2 apps tailored to the specific requirements of the Rwandan health system.
- Work closely with project managers and stakeholders to gather app requirements and translate them into functional app features.
- Utilize DHIS2 APIs to retrieve, manipulate, and visualize health data within the developed apps.
- Implement user-friendly and responsive user interfaces using web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Integrate data visualization libraries like Highcharts and D3.js to create interactive and insightful visual representations of health data.
- Implement robust security measures and adhere to authentication protocols to ensure the privacy and integrity of sensitive health information.
- Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to the continuous improvement of coding practices and standards.
- Assist in troubleshooting and debugging app issues, providing timely resolutions to maintain smooth operations.
- Stay updated with the latest DHIS2 releases, enhancements, and best practices relevant to app development within the Rwandan context.
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. (Recent graduates or individuals with equivalent experience will also be considered.)
- Solid understanding of web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Familiarity with at least one JavaScript framework, such as Angular or React.
- Proficiency in TypeScript, a statically typed superset of JavaScript commonly used in Angular and React frameworks.
- Basic knowledge of APIs and experience working with RESTful APIs.
- Analytical mindset and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English and knowledge of Kinyarwanda being advantageous.
- Prior experience with DHIS2 app development, health information systems, or working within the Rwandan health sector is desirable (but not mandatory).
