Overview:

HISP Rwanda is seeking a motivated intern to join our team and contribute to DHIS2 app development projects. As a part of the Health Information Systems Program, HISP Rwanda plays a crucial role in implementing and supporting DHIS2, the open-source health information system. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in DHIS2 app development within the context of the Rwandan health system.

Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with the development team to design, develop, and test DHIS2 apps tailored to the specific requirements of the Rwandan health system.
  2. Work closely with project managers and stakeholders to gather app requirements and translate them into functional app features.
  3. Utilize DHIS2 APIs to retrieve, manipulate, and visualize health data within the developed apps.
  4. Implement user-friendly and responsive user interfaces using web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  5. Integrate data visualization libraries like Highcharts and D3.js to create interactive and insightful visual representations of health data.
  6. Implement robust security measures and adhere to authentication protocols to ensure the privacy and integrity of sensitive health information.
  7. Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to the continuous improvement of coding practices and standards.
  8. Assist in troubleshooting and debugging app issues, providing timely resolutions to maintain smooth operations.
  9. Stay updated with the latest DHIS2 releases, enhancements, and best practices relevant to app development within the Rwandan context.

Requirements:

  1. Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. (Recent graduates or individuals with equivalent experience will also be considered.)
  2. Solid understanding of web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  3. Familiarity with at least one JavaScript framework, such as Angular or React.
  4. Proficiency in TypeScript, a statically typed superset of JavaScript commonly used in Angular and React frameworks.
  5. Basic knowledge of APIs and experience working with RESTful APIs.
  6. Analytical mindset and strong problem-solving skills.
  7. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English and knowledge of Kinyarwanda being advantageous.
  9. Prior experience with DHIS2 app development, health information systems, or working within the Rwandan health sector is desirable (but not mandatory).
