We are delighted to share the highlights of our activities from January to March 2024. This quarter, HISP Rwanda has made significant strides in advancing digital health solutions, fostering partnerships, and supporting immunization and climate-health initiatives. Below are the key achievements and updates
Meeting with the Prime Minister of the Central African Republic
HISP Rwanda had the honor of meeting His Excellency Prime Minister Félix Moloua of the Central African Republic, accompanied by the Minister of Public Service, Marcel Djimasse. During the meeting, we presented our ongoing efforts to digitize the health information system and strengthen the national team’s capacity in system administration and maintenance.
Additionally, HISP Rwanda, represented by Coordinator Venuste Nsanzumuhire, submitted an innovative project to the Prime Minister. This project aims to digitize and monitor performance indicators of the National Development Plan, providing real-time tracking of implementation and budget execution.
We extended our gratitude to the Prime Minister for this partnership, which promises to yield impactful results.
Digitizing PCIME in Djibouti
In collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Djibouti and with support from UNICEF Djibouti, HISP Rwanda digitized a PCIME (Integrated Management of Childhood Illness) Tracker on the DHIS2 platform. This integrated individual data management system will enhance child healthcare and improve data quality through an electronic registry.
Vaccination (Micro-Planning) in Chad
Partnering with UNICEF Chad, the Ministry of Public Health Chad, and the Directorate of Disease Control, Vaccination, and Epidemiological Surveillance (DLMVSE), HISP Rwanda introduced a module for micro-planning vaccination activities in the provinces of Moyen-Chari, Mandoul, and Mayo-Kebbi West.
This DHIS2 based tool enables village-by-village situational analysis, considering factors like population, accessibility, vaccine coverage, stock levels, cold chain logistics, and transportation. It supports problem identification, prioritization, and cost estimation for integrated national micro-plans.
Climate and Health Integration for Malaria Control
HISP Rwanda, in partnership with the Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC), University of Oslo (UiO), University of Global Health Equity (UGHE), African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), and Meteo Rwanda, conducted a five-day workshop to integrate climate data into health information systems.
The initiative focuses on leveraging weather data to predict and manage climate-sensitive health challenges, particularly malaria. By enhancing DHIS2-based platforms like the national Health Management Information System (HMIS), we aim to improve early warning systems and data-driven interventions.
In March 2025, HISP Rwanda marked a significant milestone in integrating climate data into health information systems. A cascaded workshop on Climate & Health Apps – Malaria Use Case brought together key stakeholders from five pilot hospitals, including IDSR Focal Persons, Data Managers, Clinical Directors, and M&E Officers. As the training concluded, the pilot phase was launched at the national level and in selected hospitals, focusing on short-term quality improvement projects.
By leveraging climate-health dashboards, this initiative aims to enhance malaria control efforts through data-driven decision-making, ultimately strengthening health system responsiveness.

HISP Rwanda Supports the Update Workshop for the EPI Form in Congo-Brazzaville
On March 24, 2025, an update workshop for the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) form began in Kinkala, hosted at the conference hall of the Departmental Directorate of Health and Sanitary Services (DDSSS) in the Pool region. With technical support from HISP Rwanda, in collaboration with HISP West and Central Africa, this workshop aims to harmonize tools within the DHIS2 application, improving data quality across all levels of the health system.
The event was attended by Dr. Jonas Ebina, Director of the Central EPI, and Antoine Itoua Atipo, Director of Health Information, Evaluation, and Research (DISER). The opening ceremony was presided over by Dr. Albert Touadi, Department Director at the Ministry of Health, Population, and Gender Affairs of the Republic of Congo. END
