HISP Rwanda at the DHIS2 Annual Conference 2026

HISP Rwanda participated in the DHIS2 Annual Conference 2026 in Oslo, Norway, joining the global DHIS2 community to exchange knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and explore innovations in digital health. During the conference, Maurice Jules Mulisa delivered a Lightning Talk showcasing how DHIS2 is supporting workforce management, malaria programs, and microplanning initiatives through data-driven decision-making.

KARAME App Launched on Google Play

The KARAME App was officially launched on Google Play as part of Rwanda’s Zero Out-of-School Children initiative. Developed through a collaboration involving the Ministry of Education, Save the Children, Waliku, HISP Rwanda, and HISP Mozambique, the application enables schools to digitally track student attendance, identify learners at risk of dropping out, and strengthen data-driven education management across the country.

Supporting Digital Health Transformation in Chad

HISP supported the Ministry of Public Health and Prevention of Chad in advancing its digital health transformation through the design and demonstration of a patient-centered Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. The initiative marked an important milestone toward improving continuity of care, strengthening health information management, and integrating digital solutions with national health systems.

Advancing Electronic Medical Records in the Central African Republic

HISP contributed to the implementation of an Electronic Medical Record system at the Youth Listening Centre in the Central African Republic. The system digitalized the patient’s journey from registration to discharge, strengthening healthcare delivery while supporting the country’s broader digital health transformation efforts.

Health-Climate Project Launched in Comoros

HISP Rwanda, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of the Union of the Comoros, initiated the Health-Climate Project through stakeholder engagement meetings. The project aims to integrate climate and health data within the national health information system to support predictive models and strengthen early warning systems for climate-sensitive diseases such as malaria.

During the quarter, HISP Rwanda documented the Health Partner Management Platform (HPMP), developed in collaboration with Rwanda’s Ministry of Health. The platform digitalizes partnership management by streamlining MOU applications, improving coordination, enhancing transparency, and supporting more efficient collaboration across the health sector.

HISP Rwanda documented how the PEV Reports Generator, integrated with the DHIS2 Supervision Tool, strengthened routine immunization monitoring in Chad. The solution improved data visibility, supervision, and reporting, enabling more informed decisions for vaccine delivery and logistics management.

Strengthening Tuberculosis Surveillance in Burundi

HISP Rwanda documented its collaboration with Burundi’s National Tuberculosis Control Program and partners to strengthen drug-resistant tuberculosis surveillance through the implementation of the DHIS2 TB-DRS module. The digital solution replaced paper-based processes, improving reporting efficiency, data quality, and national surveillance capacity.

HISP Rwanda documented the successful integration of vaccination data into DHIS2 in Comoros, replacing the Excel-based DVD-MT system. Supported by Gavi, the initiative improved data quality, migrated historical records, and strengthened evidence-based decision-making for immunization services.

Launch of Performance-Based Financing Version 3

HISP Rwanda supported the successful launch of Performance-Based Financing (PBF) Version 3 for Rwanda’s Ministry of Health. The upgraded platform introduced enhanced digital features for performance monitoring, financial management, system integration, and reporting, while capacity-building sessions equipped district teams for effective implementation.

Strengthening the Digital Health Ecosystem in the Comoros

From 12 to 15 June 2026, HISP, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Union of the Comoros, supported a national Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop in preparation for the large-scale deployment of innovative digital health solutions. Bringing together key national institutions and technical partners such as WHO and UNICEF, the workshop marked an important milestone in strengthening the digital ecosystem for immunization, epidemiological surveillance, supervision, and data use, ultimately enhancing decision-making and the effectiveness of public health interventions.

 

Training on Integration of e-Tracker & e-VLMIS with Barcode System

HISP Rwanda, in collaboration with the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) and with support from UNICEF, facilitated a hands-on training aimed at strengthening vaccine traceability, data quality, and immunization supply chain efficiency in Rwanda.

The training brought together central-level teams, EPI supervisors, and Zipline staff, and focused on enhancing the use of digital tools for immunization management and vaccine logistics through the integration of the e-Tracker, e-VLMIS, and barcode system.

Training and Validation of the CHAP Tool in the Comoros

A key milestone was achieved in the Comoros through the training and validation of the CHAP tool to strengthen predictive malaria surveillance. The initiative, bringing together health and meteorology experts, enhanced national capacity to integrate climate and health data for improved decision-making.

Participants were trained on CHAP functionalities, analyzed historical data, and explored forecasting methods to identify malaria risk areas and periods. This initiative reinforced a data-driven, climate-informed approach to malaria control, supporting more proactive and targeted public health responses.

🚀 DHIS2 Academy Approaching – Registration Still Open

The DHIS2 Academy on Data Access and Analysis Configuration, organized by HISP Rwanda in collaboration with the University of Oslo, is fast approaching.

Scheduled to take place from 13 to 17 July 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda, the Academy will bring together participants to strengthen their skills in DHIS2 system configuration, data access, analysis, and data use for improved decision-making.
