Last Year, On December 6th 2024, Gabon marked a historic milestone in its healthcare sector with the official launch of the DHIS2 platform at a national scale.
The ceremony, presided over by the country’s interim Prime Minister Raymond Ndong Sima, celebrated the nation’s adoption of the globally recognized health information management system. This launch is a significant step towards advancing health data management and improving healthcare outcomes.
The event highlighted a collaborative effort involving key partners such as the World Health Organization (WHO) Gabon, The Global Fund, and the Centre de Recherches Médicales de Lambaréné (CERMEL). Their collective commitment to improving health systems was bolstered by the technical expertise of HISP Rwanda, which played a pivotal role in the design of the system and training of personnel.
The launch underscores the power of collaboration. The World Health Organization Gabon and The Global Fund have been instrumental in providing financial and technical support, ensuring the platform’s readiness for national deployment. Meanwhile, CERMEL’s contribution to research and healthcare innovation has further solidified the foundation for DHIS2’s success.
HISP Rwanda’s involvement has been critical in tailoring the DHIS2 system to meet Gabon’s specific needs. Through comprehensive training sessions and technical guidance, they have equipped local teams with the skills necessary to manage and sustain the platform effectively.
