DHIS2 Technical Gathering on Global Fund DHIA Integration Projects Opens in Kigali

Health information teams from across Africa have gathered in Kigali for the DHIS2 Technical Gathering on the Global Fund Digital Health Impact Accelerator (DHIA) Integration Projects. The workshop runs from 26 to 30 October 2026 and focuses on making digital health systems work together.

The gathering is organized by the HISP Centre at the University of Oslo (UiO) and hosted by HISP Rwanda, in collaboration with HISP Africa.

Why interoperability matters

Health data often sits in separate systems, such as routine reporting platforms, electronic medical records, laboratory systems, logistics tools, and community health applications. When these systems cannot exchange information, health workers and decision-makers get a fragmented picture. Data has to be entered more than once, reports arrive late, and gaps are harder to spot.

Interoperability connects these systems so that data flows securely and reliably between them. This helps countries make better use of the information they already collect, reduces duplication of effort, and supports timely, evidence-based decisions at every level of the health system.

Bringing implementers together

The week-long gathering brings together HISP teams and Ministry of Health implementation teams from countries participating in the DHIA. Participants will:

    • Share experiences from their integration projects, including what has worked and what has been difficult.

    • Address interoperability challenges through technical discussions and joint problem-solving.

    • Strengthen collaboration between HISP teams, national health authorities, and partners.

DHIS2 is widely used by ministries of health across Africa and beyond, and this peer exchange lets countries learn directly from one another’s practical experience.

Hosting in Rwanda

As host, HISP Rwanda welcomes colleagues from partner countries and institutions to Kigali. Hosting the gathering reflects Rwanda’s ongoing commitment to digital health and to regional collaboration on health information systems.

Looking ahead

Over the five days, participants will work toward connected, sustainable, and interoperable digital health systems. The shared goal is stronger health systems and better health outcomes for people across the continent.

HISP Rwanda will share updates and outcomes from the gathering in the coming days. Follow us on our social media channels for more.
