From Training to Action: Strengthening Climate & Health Data for Malaria Control

HISP Rwanda continues to advance efforts to integrate climate data into health information systems through a targeted workshop on Climate & Health Applications – focusing on the Malaria Use Case.

The workshop brought together key stakeholders from five pilot hospitals, including:

  • IDSR Focal Persons

  • Data Managers

  • Directors of Clinical & Allied Services

  • Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation Officers

  • Quality Improvement Officers

Participants were equipped with practical skills to utilize climate-health visualizations and dashboards to improve malaria surveillance and response.

Following the training, a pilot phase has been launched at both the national level—through the Malaria Program—and across the five participating hospitals. This phase involves implementing short-term quality improvement projects aimed at leveraging data for better decision-making in malaria control.

The ultimate goal is to transform climate and health data into actionable insights that improve malaria indicators, strengthen routine data use, and enhance the overall responsiveness of the health system.

By bridging the gap between data and action, this initiative reinforces the potential of digital innovation to tackle public health challenges in a changing climate. END
