Data Visualization Academy Concludes in Kigali

On August 15, 2025, HISP Rwanda successfully concluded a 5-day Data Visualization in DHIS2 Academy in Kigali. Beginning on August 11, implementers, data managers, and M&E team leads from across Africa participated in hands-on training, mastering Pivot Tables, Charts, Maps, Dashboards, and the Interpretations feature in DHIS2 to enhance data-driven decision-making.

The academy was officially closed by Dr. Mohammed Semakula, Permanent Secretary of Rwanda’s Ministry of Health, who praised the training’s role in improving citizens’ lives and fostering national development.

HISP Rwanda Supports Oncology Module Implementation in Jamaica

HISP Rwanda proudly contributed to the successful implementation of the DHIS2 Oncology Module in Jamaica, a significant milestone in strengthening cancer data management.

In collaboration with the Jamaican Ministry of Health and Wellness, the University of Oslo (UiO), and the HISP Centre, this initiative underscored the power of global partnerships in addressing public health challenges like cancer through accurate and timely data.

Webinar: Microplanning Tool for Vaccination in Central African  Republic

On August 25, 2025, HISP Rwanda, in partnership with the Ministry of Health of the Central African Republic and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, hosted a webinar on implementing a Microplanning Tool for Vaccination.

The session highlighted:

  • Integration of geospatial data
  • Automatic generation of reports and maps
  • Interactive dashboards
  • Real-world field experiences

This digital solution is transforming vaccination campaign planning in the Central African Republic, ensuring more effective and equitable coverage.

Strengthening Case-Based Surveillance in Rwanda

HISP Rwanda, in collaboration with the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), rolled out revised Case-Based Surveillance (CBS) tools across 17 districts in Rwanda.

Four-day training sessions were held in Bugesera, Nyanza, Rubavu, and Rwamagana, equipping national and subnational trainers with skills to cascade knowledge to frontline health workers and Community Health Workers (CHWs).

Participants, using the Impuruza system (DHIS2), were trained to enable:

  • 📡 Real-time case reporting
  • ⚡ Faster public health responses
  • 🔍 Improved early detection of outbreaks

This initiative marked a major step toward strengthening Rwanda’s health system through innovation and capacity building.

eLMIS Implementation Review in Comoros

On July 30, 2025, a high-level debriefing meeting on the eLMIS (Electronic Logistics Management Information System) implementation took place at Retaj Hotel Moroni, Comoros.

Attended by the Secretary General of the Comoros Ministry of Health and other stakeholders, the meeting evaluated the project’s progress and proposed improvements for scalability and sustainability.

Implemented by HISP Rwanda, in collaboration with the University of Oslo and the mSupply Foundation, and funded by the World Bank through the Vaccine Project, the initiative received validated recommendations to enhance its impact on health logistics in Comoros.

 Zambia’s DHIS2 Success Stories

Staff from the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) shared inspiring stories about their experience with the DHIS2 Academy and how DHIS2 is transforming their daily work.

From improving data use to enhancing decision-making, these interviews highlight the real-world impact of DHIS2 in public health.

 Cambodia Cancer Registries Delegation Visits HISP Rwanda

On August 3, 2025, HISP Rwanda welcomed Dr. Nhim Dina, Country Coordinator of Cambodia’s Cancer Registries Program, and his delegation for a study visit.

The focus was the DHIS2 Oncology Add-On Module, a critical tool for strengthening cancer registries and evidence-based public health programs. This visit highlighted the importance of international collaboration in improving cancer data systems for better health outcomes.

Comoros Health Ministry Visit to HISP Rwanda

In September 2025, HISP Rwanda had the honor of hosting Mr. Soudjay Mohamed, Secretary General of the Comoros Ministry of Health and Social Protection, at our Kigali offices.

During the visit, Mr. Mohamed explored our key departments, including implementation, capacity building, software engineering, system integration, planning, monitoring & evaluation, strategic advisory, finance, and administration.

He commended the strong partnership between HISP Rwanda and the Comoros Ministry of Health, which continues to enhance health information management and data utilization in the Comoros health sector.

 New Video Tutorial: Rwanda’s Electronic Immunization Tracker

HISP Rwanda released a new video tutorial guiding health data clerks and immunization program staff on using the Electronic Immunization Tracker (EIT).

The step-by-step guide demonstrated how to record vaccination data accurately, ensuring effective reporting and follow-up for children receiving vaccines in Rwanda.

Revolutionizing TB Care in Rwanda and Tanzania

HISP Tanzania, in collaboration with HISP Rwanda, introduced an innovative solution integrating Smart Pillboxes with the DHIS2 platform to enhance tuberculosis (TB) management.

This initiative is improving patient adherence to treatment and supporting smarter healthcare delivery and resource planning in both Rwanda and Tanzania.
