Dashboards are at the heart of how we interact with data in DHIS2. We design them carefully, choose the right indicators, adjust layouts—and then we hope they are being used as intended.
But one question always comes back:
Are these dashboards actually being used? And by whom?
That question is what led to the creation of the Dashboard Usage Metrics app, now officially published on the DHIS2 App Hub.
For a long time, understanding dashboard usage meant relying on assumptions. We could see dashboards, but not their impact. We didn’t clearly know who was engaging with them, how often they were opened, or which ones were truly adding value.
The Dashboard Usage Metrics app changes that.
It provides clear visibility into how dashboards are used—showing:
- Who is engaging with dashboards
- How frequently dashboards are accessed
- Which dashboards are delivering value
- Where improvements should be focused
With these insights, dashboards stop being static visuals and start becoming measurable tools for decision-making.
This app is about moving from guesswork to evidence, from assumptions to data-driven action helping teams strengthen their dashboards and ensure that the right information reaches the right people, at the right time.
Sometimes, the most powerful improvement isn’t creating something new but finally being able to see what’s already there.
