HISP EMR Implementation in the Central African Republic

System Description

The HISP EMR is a web-based platform designed to manage the full patient care journey across hospital departments. It enables healthcare providers to capture, store, and access patient information in real time, ensuring continuity of care across services.

The system covers key hospital functions, including:

  • Patient registration and unique identification

  • Clinical consultations and diagnosis

  • Vital signs recording

  • Laboratory test ordering and results management

  • Pharmacy and drug stock management

  • Maternal and pediatric care

  • Billing and insurance management

Clinical data collected at facility level is structured and integrated into national health information systems, including platforms powered by DHIS2, reducing manual reporting and improving data quality.

Key Features

  • Centralized and integrated patient records

  • Real-time dashboards for monitoring hospital performance

  • Multi-language support (English, French, Kinyarwanda)

  • Offline functionality for low-resource settings

  • Interoperability with national health information systems

Implementation Approach

The deployment follows a phased approach that includes system assessment, customization, and capacity building.

  • Site assessments are conducted to evaluate infrastructure and workflows

  • System configuration is adapted to local needs and hospital departments

  • Training is provided to healthcare workers and technical teams

  • An EMR Showroom is used as a live demonstration environment for learning and knowledge sharing

Impact

The implementation of the HISP EMR is improving access to patient information, enabling more informed clinical decisions, and enhancing operational efficiency within hospitals.

The system also supports real-time data availability for health authorities, strengthening monitoring, reporting, and overall health system management in the Central African Republic.
